Local play supports one to four players on a single system, while online play, including the ranked Pro League, needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Release Date, Price & Switch 2 Exclusivity

The facts people check before buying: when it unlocks, what it costs, which console it runs on, and how big the download is. It also settles the confusion with Nintendo Switch Sports (2022) and Wii Sports Resort.

ReleaseOctober 22, 2026, per the official Nintendo store listing.
PriceUS digital edition is 49.99 dollars. A Switch 2 bundle is reported at 499.99 dollars by Siliconera but is not stated on the official page, so we mark it unverified.
PlatformNintendo Switch 2 exclusive. It does not run on the original Switch.
File size16 GB estimated, as listed on the official product page.
Players1 to 4 players on a single system; online play requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Not 2022A new entry in the series, not Nintendo Switch Sports (2022) and not Wii Sports Resort (2009).

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Beginner Guide

What to actually do in your first hour: warm up, pick one sport, clear its ranks, then spend your first Spocco Points. Written for players who want the next step, not a feature list.

1Warm up with Jump Rope. It is the warm-up activity, not one of the 12 sports, so do not count it when tracking progress.
2Pick one sport and stay with it. Island Crown is a per-sport ladder, so spreading across all 12 delays your first Island Champion fight.
3Play in TV or tabletop mode with enough clearance, and put the Joy-Con 2 wrist straps on before your first swing.
4Spend your first Spocco Points at the Item Center on gear and outfits, not on cosmetics you will replace.
5Unlock Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane early so you can move around Wuhu Island and start collecting Spocco Photos.

All 12 Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Sports

Every sport in the game with the control style it actually uses, so you can tell motion sports from the one mouse-mode sport. Jump Rope is listed separately because Nintendo does not count it among the 12.

BoxingMotion punches with guard and counter; the official page calls out different punches for the knockout.
BowlingSwing to throw, twist the controller to add spin. Special lanes add obstacles and moving floors.
ArcheryDraw and aim with motion controls; wind affects the shot. A special mode only targets your own zone.
TennisUse any Joy-Con 2 as a racket.
Table TennisQuick, simple shots with varied spin to break your opponent's rhythm.
VolleyballServe, set and spike through a three-touch chain.
BasketballDribble, pass and shoot.
GolfSwing strength changes the shot shape.
Thumb WrestlingNew sport. Hold your thumb down to make it bigger and stronger, then pin your opponent for three seconds.
SkateboardingNew sport and the only one using Joy-Con 2 mouse controls: grind rails, slide and land aerial tricks.
Power CruisingTilt the controller as handlebars and twist for an instant boost.
Prop PlaneTilt to steer, roll and speed up while shooting balloons.
Not includedBaseball, sword fighting, cycling and badminton from Wii Sports Resort are absent from Nintendo's published list; not confirmed as cut.
Jump RopeA warm-up activity rather than one of the 12, which is why some outlets report 13 sports.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Controls, Players & Controllers

Answers the setup questions that block a purchase: how many people can play, how many Joy-Con 2 you need, and what changes online. Includes the one sport that will not work with older Joy-Con.

1Check your controllers first. Joy-Con 2 is the default; original Switch Joy-Con also work, with Skateboarding as the stated exception because it needs mouse controls.
2For local play, one system supports 1 to 4 players. Some activities need extra Joy-Con 2 controllers, which are sold separately.
3Set the console to TV or tabletop mode. Both are listed as supported play modes; handheld is not.
4For online, you need a Nintendo Switch Online membership plus a Nintendo Account. A Friend Lobby holds up to 8 people, with a maximum of 2 players per console.
5Pick your online queue: casual matches do not change your rank, while Pro League is the ranked ladder.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Island Crown Guide

Island Crown is the offline single-player ladder: climb a sport's ranks, then beat its Island Champion, then a Legend. This page tracks the ladder structure and what has been confirmed so far.

1Understand what Island Crown is: a per-sport offline progression, separate from online Pro League ranking.
2Climb the ranks in one sport. Rank count per sport is not published yet; the page lists what is confirmed after launch.
3Challenge the Island Champion once you reach the required rank for that sport.
4Beat a Champion to earn the chance to face an Island Legend, the top tier of the mode.
5Do not confuse Island Crown with Spocco Points: Crown advances your rank, Points only buy customization items.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Tier List: All 12 Sports by Difficulty

A pick-up difficulty tier list, not a competitive ranking: it groups the 12 sports by how much input control they demand. It is an editorial rating built on Nintendo's own control descriptions.

S Tier

Easiest to start: Tennis, Bowling, Boxing. One motion per action and no aiming step, so a first-time player can score in the first match.

A Tier

Timing matters: Table Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Golf. The motion is simple but spin, touch or swing strength changes the outcome.

B Tier

Aiming or precision required: Archery, Thumb Wrestling, Prop Plane. Wind, a three-second pin window or balloon targets punish loose inputs.

C Tier

Highest input barrier: Skateboarding (Joy-Con 2 mouse mode, grind and aerial tricks), then Power Cruising (steering plus a timed boost twist).

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Spocco Photo Locations & Collectibles

Where the island's collectibles come from and how exploration connects to them. Totals are not published by Nintendo, so this page states what is confirmed instead of guessing a count.

PhotosCameras are scattered around Wuhu Island; collecting a photo unlocks information about a must-see sightseeing spot.
SightseeingThree ways to explore the island: Power Cruising on the water, Skateboarding across the resort, and Prop Plane in the sky.
HibiscusHidden flowers around the island, confirmed by Nintendo's own overview text.
DolphinsYou can chase dolphins in the ocean while cruising.
CountsNintendo has not published how many Spocco Photos or hibiscus flowers exist, so no total is printed until they are counted in-game.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Spocco Points & Item Center

How the currency works: every sport pays Spocco Points, and the Item Center turns them into outfits, hairstyles and equipment. This page tracks what each purchase costs once the shop is live.

EarnSpocco Points come from playing any sport in any mode, so exploring and single matches both pay.
SpendRedeem them at the Item Center for clothing, sports equipment and hairstyles.
AvatarsItems apply to both the Sportsmate avatar and a Mii character.
RotationSiliconera reports weekly Item Center selections and monthly items, meaning stock changes over time. Marked unverified until seen in-game.
PricesPer-item point costs are not published, so each entry is dated once recorded after launch.
